Judy Hogan was welcomed back to Brooker near the end of the summer and saluted for her work bringing the Child Care Center garden to life. She worked with a group of volunteers to build the raised beds and plan the plantings.
She reminisced with Director Charlene Lee and the teachers, Molly Weir, Lacey Gover and Danelle Robison, who have all had a hand in introducing children to the garden over the years.
“It was a real community effort,” Judy shared. She approached Iffland Lumber to ask them for the wood and then went to Oliver Wolcott School to ask to have the students construct the beds. The UConn Extension Master Gardener Program was also involved for advice and guidance, Judy said.
