Brooker Memorial has installed a dental clinic for preschool students through a collaboration with EdAdvance Head Start that will soon be providing dental hygiene services at the Grove Street facility.
The two organizations held a reception for grant funders and dignitaries Wednesday, Jan. 14 and gave tours of the dental clinic space to the 35 people attending, which included Mayor Molly Spino, Sen. Paul Hoenig (8th District) and Rep. Joe Canino (65th District).
Brooker’s Executive Director Christina Emery welcomed everyone and shared her thanks to EdAdvance for making the dental clinic possible.
“Your belief in this partnership made it possible to create an in-school dental clinic here, serving 120 preschool children in this beautifully renovated building and allowing us to treat them before barriers become obstacles,” she said.
Emery also saluted the organizations that helped fund the program.
“I want to make a specific thank you to the generous support of our funders. None of this work would have been possible without our friends from Hartford HealthCare, Torrington Savings Bank, Union Savings Bank Foundation, and American Savings Foundation,” Emery said. “Thank you all for investing in the health of our community, young learners and making this vision a reality. I’m really proud of what this partnership represents and excited about the impacts it will have.”
She also recognized the support of the Brooker Board of Managers to expand the dental services to preschool students and recognized Board President Donna Mattiello and the other board members attending.
