At Brooker Memorial, we know that close, secure relationships are the foundation of your baby’s healthy development. Our caring and skilled teachers provide gentle, responsive care in a safe and stimulating environment. Every day, we spend quality time with each baby, talking, singing, reading, and nurturing, supporting them as they reach each new milestone.
Toddlers are full of wonder, exploring their world with curiosity and joy as they begin to discover who they are. Our program encourages toddlers to investigate their surroundings and learn through play-based experiences. Our attentive teachers support toddlers as they learn to express themselves, solve problems, and develop self-help skills, always encouraging them along the way.
Preschool is a time of incredible growth and discovery. At Brooker Memorial, we embrace this phase with enthusiasm, offering engaging activities that help preschoolers learn by doing. Our experienced teachers guide children in both group and individual learning experiences, all aligned with Connecticut’s Early Learning and Development Standards. We’re here to help each child gain the skills they’ll need for Kindergarten and beyond.
School-age children work hard during the day, and when they come to Brooker Memorial, they find a welcoming space to unwind, socialize, and recharge. Our before-school program offers time for breakfast, activities, and connecting with friends, while our after-school program includes a healthy snack, active play, and creative choices. Busing, provided by the City of Torrington, is available to Vogel-Wetmore and Torringford schools.
For many children, nursery school is their first experience in a structured setting, and we strive to make it a warm, welcoming one. Our nursery program gently introduces children to sharing, following instructions, and the early foundations of literacy, math, and science. Through developmentally appropriate activities, children gain social skills, make new friends, and build confidence in a supportive, nurturing environment.
At Brooker Memorial, we believe that learning happens best through play and exploration. In a quality preschool setting, your child will have the chance to develop essential skills in a nurturing environment.
At Brooker Memorial, we believe that every child deserves a rich and fulfilling learning experience. That’s why we offer a variety of weekly enrichment activities at no additional cost to families, adding joy and growth to each child’s day.
Every week, children delight in music classes led by singer, songwriter, and music educator Kath Bloom. Music enriches children’s development in so many ways—supporting language growth, introducing the sounds and meanings of words, and building new vocabulary. Dancing to music also helps strengthen motor skills, encourages self-expression, and adds physical activity to their routine, creating moments of joy and movement.
Introducing yoga at an early age provides children with tools for lifelong wellness. Through yoga, they build physical coordination and strength, enhance focus, and improve body awareness. This practice also boosts self-esteem, builds confidence, and offers a calming, stress-relieving experience. Certified instructor Julia Nield guides our children through weekly yoga classes, helping them feel centered and empowered.
Our outdoor organic garden offers children hands-on experiences with nature. Throughout the year, our children plant, care for, and harvest a variety of vegetables, strawberries, and even seasonal sunflowers and pumpkins. Gardening encourages a love of nature, teaches responsibility, and provides valuable lessons in where food comes from. Best of all, the children get to enjoy the fruits of their labor by tasting the fresh produce, with extras shared in a free children’s farmers market.
