Support the Brooker Memorial 2024 Annual Fund
A gift of any amount goes right to work supporting our Child Care & Early Learning Center, Pediatric Dental Center, Pathways to Success, or the Ruth Chadwick Care Closet.
Every gift makes an impact on the lives of the children and families we serve. Gifts may be made in honor or in memory of friends or family members.
There are multiple ways that you can support Brooker Memorial
By supporting the Brooker Memorial’s annual fund, you can make a lasting impact on the life of a child. Our mission is to prepare children for lifelong success through education, health services, family support, and excellence in programs. There are multiple ways to contribute to our cause that make a significant difference in shaping a brighter future for children and families in your community. See below for the ways you can support us and how your gifts can be used.
Gifts In Kind
We always appreciate gifts of program supplies and materials. In kind gifts include books, supplies, clothing and gift cards for the Ruth Chadwick Care Closet. If you would like to give a gift in kind, please call us at (860) 489-1328, ext. 129 to be certain that your gift can be used by our programs.
Legacy Gifts & Estate Planning
Legacy gifts are especially meaningful because they help support the work of Brooker Memorial on a perpetual basis. Legacy gifts can be diverse, ranging from a donation amount specified in your will, to a charitable trust or establishing an endowed fund for Brooker. A legacy gift is a way to provide significant financial support to Brooker Memorial while enabling the donor to receive positive tax outcomes. Read more about Legacy gifts.
There are many options that can be explored. We would love to talk more with you. Please contact Executive Director Christina Emery (860) 482-3012.
Ruth Chadwick Care Closet
In 1918, Brooker Memorial developed a “Loan Closet” to help families in need. In recent years this idea was revived and this became the Ruth Chadwick Care Closet. The Care Closet enables us to respond to needs of the families we serve. Donations of cash or department/grocery store gift cards are always welcome.

The Leon and Jennie E. Meyer Fund
The Leon and Jennie E. Meyer Fund was established in 2020 by Len and Wendy Meyer. This endowment fund honors Len’s parents for the examples they set for their children. All contributions to the fund will generate earnings for current operations and projects. The principal will be retained in perpetuity and as it grows, so will the amount of support for Brooker programs including child care, dental care for children and pregnant women, children’s therapies, and others.

A Letter from Our Executive Director
I am blessed to have joined the Brooker Memorial team as its Executive Director this past month and am now surrounded by young smiling faces which are evident of how important our services are to their health, wellness, and success.
Our dedicated staff, board, and volunteers provide excellent care, which is reflected in the successes we witness every day. It might be a child in our dental center that didn’t have any cavities, or a child in our childcare center learning a new word, or the family going through difficult times needing a little help from the Ruth Chadwick Care Closet.
These successes are only possible with the generous support from our community.
Your support provides scholarships to help families return to work thanks to childcare scholarships or allows income eligible families to pay only $10 or $25 for a dental visit which is critical to children’s physical health. You are providing enrichment programs in childcare, and for Torrington public school students have access to dental care at no cost. You allow high school students find a career that is the right fit for them by participating in aptitude testing in our Pathways to Success program.
This impact is reflected in the words of one of our participating mothers:
I am a single mom and work a lot of hours to support myself and my daughter. I make too much to get help, but not enough to make ends meet. The scholarship provided the daycare I needed, so I was able to work the hours I needed to support my family, the scholarship completed us. I do not know what I would have done without this program.
Thank you for considering a gift to our Annual Fund. With your support, all children we serve will find pathways to a brighter, healthier, and more successful future.
Sincerely,
Christina Emery
