Brooker Memorial dedicates new Splashpad to Cathy Coyle

August 27, 2026 – Brooker Memorial recently celebrated something simple but very important – a place where children can play, have fun, and enjoy being outdoors.

A brand new splashpad and bicycle track was dedicated to former executive director Cathy Coyle, who retired in 2024. Coyle was able to join the celebration Aug. 27, along with all the Child Care students and teachers, Executive Director Christina Emery, Child Care Center Director Charlene Lee and Maura Malo, CEO and President of Northwest Connecticut Community Bank.

Play and outdoor activity are so important to young children. They support physical development, creativity, social skills, confidence, and simply the joy of being a child,” said Emery. “We’re thrilled that our students now have this splash pad as another place to learn and play together.”

“I want to especially thank Cathy Coyle, our former Executive Director, who upon her retirement chose to direct gifts made in her honor to support this play area. Cathy gave so much to Brooker during her 20-year tenure, and it’s wonderful to see her generosity continue to benefit the children we serve for years to come.”
