June 2026 – Recent surveys of area teens conducted by Brooker Memorial have found that 50% are interested in participating in both mentoring and job shadowing with career professionals while they are in high school. While no program currently exists, Brooker is working to make this a reality.
An online fundraising campaign through Northwest Corner Gives from July 1 to 22 aims to raise $3,000, which will be matched by the Northwest CT Community Foundation (NCCF) to provide career mentoring and job shadowing to area teens. Giving will be at www.northwestcornergives.org beginning July 1 and all gifts made will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
Aptitude testing has been provided to over 140 area teens during the past four years through Brooker’s Pathway to Success, with 34 hosted for the testing this spring at Brooker’s Torrington facility. A Career Expo in May featured 17 career professionals from across Northwest Connecticut.
