August 2026 – Brooker Memorial gratefully received 42 soccer balls Monday, Aug. 10 that were donated to the Early Learning and Child Care Center.
Torrington Mayor Molly Spino met with preschool age children and administrators to present the gift that came to the City of Torrington from a donation by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup through the US Conference of Mayors.
Children are excited that they will be able to take the official soccer balls home with them. Each one has a printed label “FIFA Football for Schools.”
Mayor Spino said the city received 200 soccer balls and they are distributing them to child care centers in Torrington.
“It was so much fun seeing how excited the kids were to receive their own soccer balls,” Mayor Spino said. “This is a great way to get kids outside, active and having fun. I’m grateful we have the opportunity to share these with children throughout Torrington.”
Brooker Executive Director Christina Emery thanked her for the gift, “We are grateful to Mayor Spino for bringing the excitement of the World Cup to our children through this generous gift.”
