About Us

Our Legacy of Caring

Brooker Memorial, founded in 1918 by Charles F. Brooker, stands as a loving tribute to the legacy of Maria Seymour Brooker—a woman whose compassion and dedication to children’s well-being touched countless lives. Inspired by his mother’s deep commitment to “benevolence, aid, charity, and education,” Mr. Brooker donated the family homestead to create a space where community and care could flourish. This gift was paired with an endowment to ensure Maria’s vision of nurturing support for families and children would live on.

Maria Seymour Brooker was a remarkable advocate for children and families. With a pioneering spirit, she championed efforts to uplift others, believing in the importance of safe, open spaces where children could play, learn, and grow. Brooker Memorial’s early programs mirrored her values, offering services such as housing for nurses, a day nursery, an orphanage, and a welcoming playground—creating a haven for children and families alike.

Today, we continue to honor Maria’s enduring legacy, evolving our services to meet the changing needs of our community while staying true to her mission of compassion and support. At Brooker Memorial, we’re dedicated to strengthening our community by nurturing the next generation.

To mark our 100th anniversary in 2018, we created a heartfelt slideshow capturing the rich history and impact of Brooker Memorial. We invite you to join us on this journey through the years, celebrating the many lives touched by Maria Seymour Brooker’s inspiring legacy of love and service.
